Pura is a term for Hindu worship place in Bali or in English we called Temple. Pura or Temple in Indonesia particularly concentrated in Bali as an Island which has Hindu religious people.

Etymologically the word "Pura" originally Sanskrit suffix (-pur, -puri, -pura, puram, -pore), which mean city, fortress city, or city with the tower or palace. In the development of its use in Bali Island, the term of "Pura" become a name of Hindu worship place; while term "Puri" become a name to live the Kings or noble.

In Bali Island is found many temples so that nicknamed Island Of Thousands Temple. From those temples, 6 main temples are known as Sad Kahyangan Jagad Temple.

Sad Kahyangan Jagat is 6 main temples according to the beliefs of People of Bali is the Joints of the island of Bali. The people of Bali beliefs these temples below as Sad Kahyangan Jagat:

1. Besakih Temple In Karangasem Regency

Besakih temple is a complex of temple which located in Besakih Village, Rendang district Karangasem Regency. The complex of Besakih temple consists of one central temple (Pura Penataran Agung Besakih) and 18 companion temples (1 Basukian temple and 17 other temples). In Basukian temple, in this area the first time revelation of God by Hyang Rsi Markendya, the beginning of Hindu Dharma in Bali, as the central. Besakih temple is central activity of whole temples in Bali Island.
Among all the temples in the complex of Besakih temple, Pura Penataran Agung is the biggest, most widely buildings of it is Pelinggih, the most kind of Upakara or ceremony also become the central of whole temples in the complex of Besakih temple. In Pura Penataran Agung be found 3 sculptures or main temple symbol Stana from the nature of God Tri Murti, namely Brahma as the symbol of the creator god, Wisnu as the symbol of god keeper, and Siva as the symbol of the god of Smelter or reincarnation. Besakih temple included into the list of the World Heritage UNESCO since 1995.

2. Lempuyang Luhur Temple In Karangasem Regency

Lempuyang Luhur temple is located in the eastern part of Bali Island exactly in Parahuya village Abang regency, Karangasem Regency. In the Gamongan hill or also called Bisbis hill or twin mountain standing still Lempuyang Luhur temple. This temple is included one of Sad Kahyangan Jagat temple in Bali, the place to worship God in the manifestation as Sang Hyang Iswara.
Worship God as the Sang Hyang Iswara as the protector east direction, the rising of the sun. The Sun god is also called Savita goddess or Savitri goddess. Worshiping to the Sang Hyang Iswara to direct self to get the ray of enlightenment of life. 
Lempuyang Luhur temple and other Sad Kahyangan Jagat Temples was built at the 11th century when the Mpu Kuturan escorts King Udayana govern Bali with his Queen. Sad Kahyangan Jagat Temples is built to preserve the people of Bali constantly do the right things base on the religious teachings.

3.Goa Lawah Temple In Klungkung Regency

In Bali, Goa Lawah Temple is a temple to worship God as the Sea god. Pelinggahan Village Dawan District, Klungkung regency where the location of Goa Lawah temple as the central of Segara temple in Bali to worship God as the Sea god. In ejection of precautions of Mount Agung was told Siva god sent Sang Hyang Tri Murti to save the earth. Brahma god descends become into existence Naga Ananta Boga, Wisnu god becomes into existence of Naga Basuki, Iswara god become into existence Naga Taksaka. The central of its tail at Pura Goa Raja, one of the temples in the complex of Besakih temple. Because long ago, a cave at Goa Raja temple supposedly throughout to the Goa Lawah temple. Since it was an earthquake in 1917, that cave becomes closed.

4. Uluwatu Temple In Badung Regency

Pura Luhur Uluwatu or Uluwatu temple is a temple located in Pecatu village, Kuta district, Badung Regency. The temple which situated on the tip southwest of Bali on a rock platform that is steep and jutting into the sea is included Sad Kahyangan Jagat temple according to the belief of Hindu people in Bali as the buffer of 9 points. In the beginning, this temple was used to reverence a Holly Priest from the 11th century named Empu Kuturan. He set down teachings of the Traditional village with its all regulations. This temple was also used to reverence to the next Holly Priest is Dang Hyang Nirartha who came to Bali at the end of 1550 and accomplish his Holy Journey with what is called Moksha or Ngeluhur in this place. This word becomes derivation of name Pura Luhur Uluwatu.
Uluwatu temple located at 97 meters above the sea level. In front of temple occur small forest which is called Alas Kekeran functional preservation of the Holiness of the temple.
Uluwatu temple has few Pesanakan temples which closely related to the main temple. Those Pesanakan temples are Pura Bajurit, Pura Pererepan, Pura Kulat, Pura Dalem Selonding, and Pura Dalem Pangleburan. Each of those temples closely related to Uluwatu temple particularly at its Piodalan Day. God manifestation to be worshiped at Uluwatu temple is Rudra god.

5. Batukaru Temple In Tabanan Regency

Luhur Batukaru Temple is used as the place to worship to the God as Mahadewa. Because it is functional to worship god as god who grows plantations with use of water properly, so this Luhur Batukaru temple is called as worshiping god as Ratu Hyang Tumuhuh - designation of god who makes it grow.
God as the source who unite water with soil so appears the power to grow the plantation. Those plantations will grow fertile with its green leaves contain clorofile as substance who save lives. The worshiper of god at Luhur Batukaru temple advice become media to develop the spiritual power to build life spirit seriously preserve the fertilization of soil and the springs.
Pura Luhur Batukaru located at Wongaya Gede village, Penebel sub-district, Tabanan Regency. Location of this temple situated on the western part of Bali at the south slope of Mount Batukaru. Big possibility name of this temple take from this Batukaru temple. For those who would like to worship to Pura Luhur Batukaru is expected to worship at Pura Jero Taksu. This temple may be a bit far from Pura Luhur Batukaru.

Pura Luhur Batukaru is also included into Pua Sad Kahyangan which mention in ejected of Kusuma Dewa. Pura Luhur Batukaru has existed at the 11th century. It is same period with Pura Besakih, Pura Lempunyang Luhur, Pura Goa lawah, Pura Luhur Uluwatu, and Pura Pusering Jagat. As the inisiator of making the Sad Kahyangan Jagat is Mpu Kuturan.

6. Pusering Jagat Temple

If you ask, where is the central of the world to the people of Pejeng Village, Gianyar, so they will quickly answer the place is at Pusering Jagat Temple. They beliefs life and world civilization begin at Pusering Jagat Temple. That faith of big possibility because Pusering Jagat means Center of the Universal.
Pusering Jagat Temple actually is an important temple in Bali. This temple included into the one of sixth of Sad Kahyangan Jagat temple in Bali which situated in the center. In the Hindu cosmology, in the center is Sthana (Place of residence) Siva god.
Pusering Jagat Temple is located in Pejeng village which long time ago was a center of Bali Kuna (ancient) Kingdom. Many people supposed that word Pejeng originally from word Pajeng that means Umbrella. From this village Kings of Bali Kuna preserve his people. However, there is guessed that word Pejeng originally from word Pajang (Java Kuna Language) which means light. Belief, from here the light of excellence emitted to the whole of universe.
In this temple also be found ancient relics form of vessel which called Sangku Sudamala that simbolize abundance of Holy water for life. In this Sangku Sudamala can be found illustration which indicated number of Caka year 1251.
